We believe that travel experiences are greatly enhanced when visitors are curious and eager to learn about the people and places they will be visiting.
It's an old saying that still holds true. The way we put it all together, is what sets us apart.
At Magamba Safaris, we start with a hand-picked group of outstanding safari partners. Each partner specializes in offering the type of experience that we think represents Africa. And they each offer a fantastic selection of lodges and luxury tented camps.
Next, we design each of our African safaris to capture experiences which reflect the unique interests of individual travelers, and small groups of like-minded people.
When you're ready to begin your journey with Magamba Safaris, we know it's because you share our passion for Africa, its wildlife, its people and its beauty. We look forward to personally leading you on your journey.

Both have a compassion for wilderness and wildlife, and sensitivity for other cultures and ethnic groups. Their knowledge and expertise are legendary.
Company History
Magamba means hero, or the stuff of legends, in the language of the Shona. And Safari is a Swahili word for journey.
We believe that the "pure adrenalin" form of adventure travel is finally giving way to a more relevant experience. The youthful exuberance of the 80's and 90's is being replaced by an awareness of the global community, and a desire for better understanding of other people and cultures.
Few safari companies are well-informed about rural village life in Africa, and so they offer "cultural excursions" only as a sidebar to their primary focus — safari lodges and wildlife viewing. Not so with Magamba Safaris. John Schnell lived in Africa, and worked in small African villages. He taught rural villagers how to turn their skills and interests into small businesses.
Many people still think of an African safari as a wildlife expedition. We suspect this bygone perception evolved from those who romanticized the sport of big game hunting. We prefer a return to the original meaning. Magamba Safaris offers journeys which incorporate our vision:
- Sensitivity for people
- Compassion for wildlife
- Sharing cultural traditions
- Preserving scenic wonders
These ideals radiate within us. We believe that Africa’s rich cultural heritage, the vastness of Africa's untamed places, and the abundance of wildlife that inhabits these wild places, are among Africa's most precious resources. The sensible use of these resources is to safeguard them, and to reveal them to the world. Our goal is simple: to integrate travelers, wildlife, cultural traditions, and the people of Africa, for their mutual advantage.
With the cooperation of exclusive safari lodges and traditional rural villages, we offer one of Africa's finest experiences, in some of the most breathtaking locations on the planet. Our journeys provide exceptional opportunities for our guests. For example, you might...
- Canoe on rivers choked with hippos and crocodiles, observe lions, cheetahs and leopards, and view breeding herds of elephant, buffalo, zebras and giraffe.
- Spend a morning in a traditional KwaZulu village, relaxing in beehive-shaped huts.
- Paddle Mokoros into the black waters of the Okavango Delta, and observe the miracle of the wetlands.
- Mingle with playful children and working women in a rural village in Manicaland, and participate in their traditional way of life.
- Walk with San trackers, and witness time-honored bush skills in the Kalahari.
- Four-wheel along tracks in the Namib Desert, with its extraordinary desert life and landscapes.
- Observe the nomadic Himba people, who place great cultural and economic value on cattle.
- Watch artisans create traditional African art, including Tonga woodcarvings, Shona sculpture, Ndebele and Weya paintings, and Mzilikazi pottery.
- Relax in style and comfort at the end of each day.
This integration is vital to the future of Africa. You can help us preserve the wildlife and wild places of Africa, and sustain Africa’s rich cultural traditions, for the benefit of future generations.
We invite you to visit Africa. Witness the abundance of African wildlife. Explore Africa’s untamed places. Interact with the gracious people of Africa. Feel the magic ofAfrican culture. And become an important part of the rediscovery of Africa.
